The Cuevas Patrimonio was created by Luis Cuevas Jr and his son Alec as a tribute to the family patriarch, Luis Cuevas Sr. It honors Cuevas Sr.’s perseverance and commitment to preserving the family’s legacy in premium tobacco. Patrimonio is made in the family’s Tabacalera Las Lavas factory in the Dominican Republic. The blend begins with a complex array of filler tobaccos from Peru, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. For this special project they selected an Ecuadorian Habano binder and a beautiful Honduran Corojo wrapper. Tasting notes include flavors of earth, cedar, and pepper with hints of toasted nuts, baking spices, and leather. Patrimonio is another outstanding blend from the good people at Casa Cuevas.

If you’re around the premium cigar industry long enough, you start to notice a few things. It’s a small industry with many multi-generational, family-run factories and farms. While the Cuevas name is not well-known, for four generations this family has been growing tremendous tobacco and manufacturing cigars. Today, their Las Lavas factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic manufactures many brands of premium cigars including the ones that bear the family name. Interesting side note about Cuevas cigars: they were originally scheduled to launch in the early 2000s. Business was really good, and with factory commitments for contact brands, they decided to postpone the release. Fast forward about 15 years, and the Cuevas brands have finally found their time in the sun.
