The Cuban Diplomat line was developed as a tribute to the hard working people dedicated to the USA’s diplomatic mission in Cuba. While the political tensions are nowhere near what they once were in the heyday of the cold war, they’re still not exactly what you would call warm. The US established diplomatic relations with the island nation in 1902 and opened an embassy in Havana in 1923. In 1961, 3 years after the Cuban revolution, the US severed diplomatic relations with Cuba and closed their embassy. Beginning in 1977, less formal relationships were developed to bridge the gap with our neighbors 90 miles off the coast of Florida. However, in 2015 the US officially re-established diplomatic relations with Cuba and re-opened the embassy. It is the dedication of the diplomatic corps who strive to develop American interests on the island where this unique cigar derives its name.
Cuban Diplomat is an attractive cigar with a dark wrapper leaf and a predominantly silver band. Blended and manufactured under the watchful eye of AJ Fernandez, the Cuban Diplomat is a smooth cigar that embodies the delicate balance of US/Cuba relations. Using a blend of well-aged, multi-regional Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder, AJ chose a dark, 5 year aged Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper to cap off the blend. Flavors are well balanced and tasting notes include flavors of cedar, earth, and coffee with hints of pepper and cocoa. Cuban Diplomat is precisely the nuanced experience you would expect from a cigar bearing this name.
