The Diesel brand is a relatively new marquee in the cigar world. According to their marketing, the brand is made for people who have no use for flash or attention. Their cigars are unapologetic and unafraid to be different. They don’t have time for anything substandard, so they keep what works and disregard the rest. You’ll find slightly understated labels and packaging on their line of products, but don’t let that fool you into the idea that this is just some marketing campaign. They produce solid, well-made cigars and their latest addition, the Diesel Whiskey Row Sherry Cask, is no exception.

The Diesel Whiskey Row Sherry Cask is made in partnership with Rabbit Hole distillery and blended by eponymous cigar maker, AJ Fernandez. The blend consists of a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper and choice Nicaraguan fillers. What makes this new Diesel stand out is a special Brazilian Arapiaca binder that has been aged in 30 year old Rabbit Hole Sherry Cask bourbon barrels. While barrel aged tobaccos are nothing new, binder tobaccos don’t usually get that treatment. It’s usually reserved for wrapper leaf and occasionally filler. It’s a change that makes a world of difference. Tasting notes include flavors of dark chocolate, cedar, and earth with hints of berries, pepper, and a touch of vanilla sweetness. It’s a show stopping blend that isn’t flashy, rather it’s subtlety and excellence will have you coming back for more.
