The Epic of Gilgamesh is a series of poems from ancient Mesopotamia that tell a tale about the Sumerian King of Uruk, Gilgamesh. The stories date back to the third dynasty of Ur. That’s roughly 4100 years ago. It is one of the oldest surviving works of literature and religious text. The tale doesn’t have anything to do with premium cigars, but El Septimo had reason for selecting the name as Gilgamesh was the name of a King in what is now known as Iraq. While El Spetimo is not (yet) a household name in America, the brand is known for creating some of the most exclusive, boutique premium cigars sold in the world. Their customer base caters to Princes in the Middle East, European royalty, and the super wealthy. Also, most of their lines feature large ring gauge cigars and they all use vintage tobacco, but Gilgamesh is the first line they have created that has a 50 ring gauge.

The El Septimo Gilgamesh Aqua Anu is an eye catching, attractive looking cigar. The first thing that catches the eye is the super-oily wrapper, followed by the contrasting white label featuring an illustration of Gilgamesh in a cool teal blue color. You’ll also note El Septimo’s trademark 7 carefully integrated into Gilgamesh’s beard. The blends is a Costa Rican puro that features 10 year aged filler and binder tobaccos under a beautiful and dark, rare Costa Rican Maduro wrapper. It’s well constructed and burns well. Tasting notes include flavors of toasty breads, coffee, and cream with hints of cedar and an underlying sweetness. This El Septimo Gilgamesh Aqua Anu vitola is well balanced and befitting of royalty.
