The Leaf series of cigars is the brainchild of Pittsburgh retailer “Island” Jim Robinson and was conceived to be a house blend for his retail store. But as time went by, plans changed and the Leaf series is now distributed nationally. His thought with the brand was to have different blenders make a version of the Leaf and put their own unique spin on it. It’s a great concept that has seen blends created by Noel Rojas of Guyacan, Esteban Disla of RoMa Craft, and James Brown of Black Label Trading Co. However, it is the original release of the line that achieved critical, mass-market success. The first Leaf line was a project Robinson created in 2012 with his long-time friend Oscar Valladeres at his new factory in Honduras.
At launch, Leaf by Oscar quickly became one of the most talked about cigars in the industry thanks to the rough leaf wrapping that surrounds a superb, finished cigar blend. Most people thought it was some kind of joke until they removed the outer leaf, cut, and lit the cigar. From the first few puffs, people understood that this was something special. Blended using exquisitely aged Honduran filler and binder tobaccos, along with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, the Leaf by Oscar Connecticut is a smooth, mild-to-medium strength cigar with excellent construction and flavor. Tasting notes include flavors of cedar, cream, and toasted nuts with hints of citrus and pepper. Leaf by Oscar Connecticut is an incredibly pleasant cigar experience from first touch to last puff. It’s easy to understand why this brand has been a runaway success.
