Perla del Mar is a heritage brand launched by  J.C. Newman that traces its roots to Cuba. In 1905, four Cuban brothers started a cigar company called Perfecto Garcia Brothers and called their cigars “Perla del Mar” because of the beautiful Caribbean waters that surround Cuba. The tobaccos were grown on their family’s farm in Cuba, and the cigars were hand-rolled using this tobacco.  They were made in a large factory next to Newman’s El Reloj in Ybor City, Florida. Perla del Mar was one of the leading premium cigar brands in the early 1900s, and J.C. Newman’s new Perla del Mar cigars honor the brand’s historic legacy. Using a blend of choice Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, the PDM is topped with a beautiful Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper. Tasting notes include flavors of dark coffees, cedar, and pepper along with hints of dried fruits, citrus, and caramel. It’s a delightful blend that will have you seeking out your next Perla soon.

The J.C. Newman Cigar Co. is the oldest continuously functioning cigar company in America. That’s right, they still mass produce cigars right here in the old US of A. 125 years ago, the family’s patriarch, Julius C Newman began his company in the heartland of America, Cleveland, Ohio. In 1954, they moved the factory from Cleveland to Ybor City, Florida where they purchased the El Reloj cigar factory where they remain today. While they manufacture mostly machine-made cigars there, the factory itself has a long history of producing top-quality premium cigars too. The Newmans also own and operate a large factory in Nicaragua where most of their premium brands are produced. Furthering their diversity and strength of their products, the Diamond Crown line of super premium cigars is made in the Dominican Republic by Arturo Fuente. Few families can trace their roots in the cigar industry back over 125 years, but JC Newman can, and they are still a force in the world of premium cigars.
