For more than five generations, the Plasencia family have been known as some of the best tobacco growers the world over. They have been manufacturing cigars that are known for their quality for just as long. Although not a household name (yet), you’ve likely seen their handiwork in brands like Rocky Patel, Gurkha, and Romeo y Julieta, just to name a few. A few years ago, the Plasencias decided they wanted their moment in the limelight and launched the exceptional super-premium Plasencia cigars. It was designed as a vehicle to showcase their talents as tobacco growers and cigar manufacturers.
The 2011 growing season was a banner year for Plasencia’s tobacco crops. The yields were bountiful, and the tobaccos were of outstanding quality. 2011 was also the family’s 146th consecutive year of growing tobacco. To commemorate this special crop, they decided to name a cigar after it, and the Cosecha 146 was born. It features a blend of Criollo ‘98 seed tobaccos grown in different regions of Nicaragua and Honduras all from this special crop. The fillers are Nicaraguan and Honduran grown Criollo ‘98, the binder is Esteli, Nicaraguan grown Criollo ‘98, and the wrapper is Jamastran, Honduran Criollo ‘98. These different growing regions lend a unique palette of flavors to this cigar featuring notes of oak, vanilla, and earth with hints of pepper and savory seasonings. You really can’t go wrong with any Plasencia cigar, and the Cosecha 146 is no exception. It’s a highly enjoyable cigar that will have you coming back for more.
